Why do artists list the time they worked on a piece in hours? The crafts I'm most familiar with usually prefer to state time in days/weeks/months (writing, woodwork, needlepoint, music).

54 hours sounds cooler than a day and a half.
To compete with other artists, of course.
To show how much they rock/suck by finishing so quickly/slowly.
To track their own progress.
